THE RAILWAY HOUSE

This National Heritage site built in 1913, has the most astonishing view of the sea. On calm days the sash windows are opened and one can smell the sea air and look out across the bay.

George and Jason are the cheffing team that you'll find in the kitchen, lovingly preparing each meal especially for you!

Head chef George Schoonraad has been in the industry for numerous years and joined the Railway House team two years ago. His passion for food and love of experimentation with new tastes spills over into the dishes he creates. Jason is a graduate from the prestigious Prue Leith Cooking School of Food and Wine and he lends an enthusiastic and creative twist to the outfit.

The underlying principal that they fashion the menu's to is fresh ingredients and fresh ideas. They strive to create South African food with a contemporary feel. It's about combining interesting ingredients that have been ignored for the last decade.

One of the most popular starters is the roasted papaya with sweet walnut relish; unusual but delicious. The seared fillet of game dressed with a basil chili pesto and peppadew mayonnaise is also a firm favorite. Our line fish usually served with a citrus beurre blanc, but as a specialty, George adds tree tomatoes - it seems that people are finally discovering how delicious and versatile they are.

When it comes to pudding, Railway House's marshmallow pavlova with fresh berries goes down a treat. Some patrons however can't finish the meal off without the chocolate and almond torte.

Try one dish or try them all! Each item on the menu is a delight and should be discovered and enjoyed at length.

SIMONSTOWN

The Meeting place
Situated in the picturesque village of Simon's Town along the bustling main road, The Meeting Place is a rather unique establishment created by talented owners Olivia Gain and Debbie Jaentsch. More than just a restaurant and coffee shop, it embraces a well stocked deli shop that offers a tempting selection of goodies from freshly baked bread to olive oils and preserves, as well as a treasure trove of interior accessories. The ambience is incredibly relaxed and for many regular clients it is like a home from home, with comfortable couches centered around an old fashioned cast iron fireplace, and a magazine rack stacked with plenty of reading material to peruse whilst enjoying your favourite cake and coffee.

Currently available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday lunch the buffet consists of an appetizing array of salads, roasted and marinated vegetables and assorted quiches, and ingredients will change daily depending on what is in season.

Separate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus provide a wide choice of dishes depending on what time of day you arrive, and there is always a good selection of cakes and tarts available for mid-morning coffees and afternoon teas. Breakfasts are served until 12h30 and are popular throughout the week, with variations of the Eggs Florentine a hit with regulars. The lunch menu offers a selection of sandwich fillings with freshly baked bread, and the option to make up your own salad from an impressive list of deli ingredients. More substantial fare includes a superb gourmet beef burger topped with bacon and cheddar cheese. Recommendations on the dinner menu include the Salmon Trout served with baby spinach and a poached egg, and the Grilled Springbok with orange honey and thyme sauce.

CAPE TOWN CENTRAL
Five Flies

Situated in the heart of the Cape's legal and Financial district is Five Flies restaurant. Previously an exclusive club cocooned in white washed walls and colonial dark wood where respectful mutterings soothed the halls and private rooms of this landmark building.

Today the exterior of this national monument remains unchanged, proudly proclaiming a history of significance and positioning. The interior, until its recent renovation reflected the austere atmosphere of its surroundings, but has now been skilfully remodelled to create a dining space that compliments its simple yet racy food.

The interior walls now speak with bolder tones and carefully selected modern art pieces adorn them. The lighting is soft subtle and unobtrusive to your dining experience. The cuisine is innovative, flavoursome and surprising. The energy created by the staff is contagious, and the attention to detail welcomed.

There are many elements to be savoured within the Five Flies; from the bare brick wall afternoon wine bar to the interior cobbled courtyard serving casual lunch and dinners, private dining rooms all apportioned with their own individual flair and the sumptuous cigar bar and lounge upstairs.

CAPE TOWN CENTRAL
Moja

Moja Restaurant is enjoying great reviews. Locals and foreigners alike come to share food in the Afro-Bond eatery complete with the aquatic tank and retro-orange floor. Choose from globally inspired tapas dishes, followed by fondue or piping hot lava stone on which to cook your selection of prime cut meat and fresh game fish.

Moja also offers super-sexy urban cocktails using crushed exotic and seasonal fruits, herbal infusions and botanical ingredients.

Moja has been selected as a preferential destination so be sure to spend your time in the warm orange limelight!

LAVA STONES
Experience interactive cooking that is healthy and tasty with all our prime cuts of meat trimmed of fat and carefully prepared for your personal stone. The Lava Stone will remain hot for approximately 15 minutes of cooking time.

All the meat is carefully selected for superior quality and is marinated for a minimum of 24 hours to ensure full-flavoured tenderness. For this reason, you will not need to baste the meat whilst it is on the stone (this also creates unnecessary smoke).

Each Lava Stone dish is served with it's own marinade and an additional dipping sauce. For further variety, please see our list of dipping sauces.

FONDUES
Meaning 'to melt'; fondue is either extremely hot oil in which to cook prime cuts of meat or fresh vegetables - or - it is the more traditional Swiss Fondue; mature melted cheese in which to dip chunks of crusty bread. Your waiter will attend to the pyrotechnics, all you need to do is dip in.

There are a few things to remember with fondue:
Each fork is tipped with a colour so that you know which one is yours when it's in the pot.
Don't forget it is in there (!) and, when dipping into cheese, swirl the liquid in a figure of eight to maintain consistency.
Avoid eating directly off the fork - it's really hot
It's best not to try to move your fondue pot - ask our staff to help you

BEWARE : There is a forfeit if you drop your fondue-in-process into the pot : women should kiss each man at the table and men are liable to buy everyone at the table a shot.
